Regulatory Reform

Automatic Rule Review

North Dakotans know that innovation thrives when government gets out of the way, but outdated rules often stay on the books indefinitely. Currently, our state relies on a reactive process where rules are only reviewed if an agency chooses to change them or the legislature intervenes. We want to see accountability restored by requiring a recurring, proactive review of all state rules to automatically eliminate or update unnecessary requirements every five years. By shifting the burden of proof to justify a rule’s continued existence, we can streamline mandates, accelerate economic growth, and ensure our state government remains lean and responsive to the people.
