AFP–North Dakota applauds new FAIR Act introduced by Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak
Today, Americans for Prosperity–North Dakota expresses strong support for the bill introduced by Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak — the Fair Allocation of Interstate Rates (FAIR) Act — which seeks to protect hardworking ratepayers from unfair cost-shifting by energy utilities. The bill would ensure that when states pursue aggressive green energy mandates, the costs of necessary transmission infrastructure stay within those states — rather than being spread across the entire region, including states that neither asked for nor benefit from those policies.
As transmission-cost burdens have soared — sometimes more than tripling for rural states like ours over the past two decades — cost-shifting fueled by cross-state renewable mandates has become a major driver of rising bills. The FAIR Act would prevent that unfair burden and restore accountability and fairness to our energy system.
“The FAIR Act continues an important conversation about the future of our energy and transmission systems—one that the committee should consider in coordination with their colleagues in the U.S. Senate,” said Justin Forde, AFP-ND State Director.
We’re encouraged to see Rep. Fedorchak bring real-world utility-regulation experience to Congress and champion a user-pays principle. North Dakotans should not be stuck paying higher bills because other states chose expensive, unrealistic energy mandates.
AFP–ND remains committed to protecting ratepayers, defending state sovereignty, and ensuring that energy policy is built on economics — not ideology.
Thank you, Representative Fedorchak, for introducing the FAIR Act!
