Americans for Prosperity Calls on North Dakota Congressional Delegation to Oppose Reckless $3 Trillion Bailout Package
BISMARK, ND – Americans for Prosperity North Dakota (AFP-ND) today called on the Peace Garden State’s congressional delegation to oppose the reckless $3 trillion bailout package referred to as the HEROES Act ahead of today’s expected vote in the U.S. House of Representatives.
In a letter addressed to Representative Kelly Armstrong, Senator Kevin Cramer, and Senator John Hoeven, AFP-ND urged the delegation to reject any legislation designed to bailout state governments for decades of misguided spending and irresponsible decision-making that occurred prior to the COVID-19 pandemic.
AFP-ND State Director Mike Fedorchak issued the following statement:
“We are living in the midst of an unprecedented public health and economic crisis, but reckless state bailouts will only weaken our economy’s ability to respond to it. North Dakotans shouldn’t be punished for other states’ fiscal irresponsibility. We’re asking our lawmakers in Washington to reject these harmful proposals that would add additional financial burdens to our state and instead prioritize smart spending reforms and policies that empower businesses to safely reopen.”
Background:
Earlier this week, Americans for Prosperity released, Recover Stronger: A Starting Point to Build An Economy that Works for All, a set of principles and recommendations that offer lawmakers a starting point to build a stronger economy as the country recovers from COVID-19. As Congress considers additional massive spending bills, the guidance is intended to present better alternatives to help the economy recover – and ultimately create a new, stronger economy.
